Q. What is coaching?
A. Coaching is a professional partnership between you and a qualified coach, or your team and a qualified coach that helps you to achieve your goals and enhance your life. It is another way to design your own custom ‘personal life program’ or ‘business success program’ and integrate it into reality.  Coaching concentrates on where you are now, clarifies where you want to be in the future and accelerates your progress to get there by providing focus and helping you uncover possibilities. You and your coach meet regularly to focus on the skills and actions needed to produce the results you want.

Working with a coach:

  • Keeps you focused;
  • Provides you with objectivity and support; and
  • Expedites the process of reaching your goals and makes it more enjoyable.

Q. Do I need a coach?

A. If you are not living the life you want to, and are willing to explore how you can, then coaching is for you.

Q. How is a coaching session conducted?
A. Coaching can be conducted over the telephone or in person. The telephone is time efficient and ideal for interstate and international clients, while in person is of benefit to business clients requiring a more intense coaching program held offsite. We also conduct in person individual and group coaching from our offices in Kew, Victoria.

Q. What does a coach do?
A. The role of a professional coach is to provide objective assessment and observations that will enhance your self-awareness. Professional coaches are astute listeners, confidential sounding boards and champions of opportunity and potential. We encourage you to stretch and challenge yourself, foster your shifts in thinking and challenge blind spots to help you illuminate new possibilities. Professional coaches also maintain professional boundaries, including confidentiality, and adhere to the coaching profession’s code of ethics.

Q. How long will I need to work with a coach for?
A. The length of a coaching partnership varies, depending on your needs and preferences. For certain types of focused coaching, three to six months may be enough. If you require other types of coaching, you may find it beneficial to work with a coach for a longer period. Factors that may impact the length of time include: your goals, frequency of meetings, the way you like to work and financial resources to support coaching.

Q. How does coaching work?
A. Your coach is an objective professional who can offer a unique perspective of your professional and personal situation. Your coach listens to you and helps you clarify your goals and ambitions. He or she then helps you develop actions and time plans to achieve these goals and holds you accountable for your progress.

Q. How do I choose a coach?
A. It is important to look for someone that you easily relate to – this way, you can create a powerful partnership. The best way to find out if a coach suits you is to experience an introductory coaching session.

Q. Is coaching like counselling or therapy?
A. Coaching works best for people who have already resolved past issues and are ready for the next level in their career or life. Therapy focuses on processing past issues and is less action oriented. Coaching is about living in the present and taking action to create a magical future. A coach will hold you accountable. On occasion, coaching allows you to work through something you are ‘stuck’ in or emotional overwhelm. However the emphasis is on forwarding the action and deepening your learning. And while attentive listening is central to both, coaching and therapy are quite different.

Q. How much does coaching cost?
A. Coaching fees are charged monthly, with the fee dependent on the type of coaching service, intensity and frequency of sessions. Typically, monthly fees range between $200 and $900.

Q. What are the ethical standards around coaching?
A. At Priority Partners, we operate within the ethical standards set out by the International Coach Federation (ICF).
